What It Means To: #SeekGodEarly🕊🙏🏾🌹

I have this quote, “Seek God Early.”🕊🙏🏾🌹

Actually, it’s not my quote, it’s scripture. “God; Early will I seek You” (Psalm 63:1a, NKJV).”

So that’s where I get it from. But my point to bringing this up today is perspective... yes the way or ways in which we choose or are prone to see something. For me, seeking God “early” usually meant very early in the twilight hours... somewhere right between darkness and daylight because oftentimes, (most times) that’s when I would arise from bed. 4:30ish... pre-pandemic.

Nevertheless, now after being held in-place for nearing six months, my perspective, not only early has changed, but consequently, “seeking God early” has shifted as well. Now seeking Him before I do anything else... anything! Before I make coffee, before I eat breakfast (especially before break-fast) because food breaks the overnight fasting that has taken place and replaces, alters and occupies the senses, which consequently alters that “sensitivity space” of making God first place—the first thing that nourishes your spirit. “Seeking God Early” is now an instruction to do so first before making a decision... to not make a decision, a mess, a comment or even a call, a post, text and then decide to invite the Spirit of God in to fix, prosper, or mediate something that may or may not turn out the way we hoped it would.

Another reality (for me) is that not “Seeking God Early” results in a day where prayer gets pushed to mid-day or in some cases—the end of day. Or worse—none today! The critical necessity of reading my Bible in a effort to know God, embrace God; to find out Who He really is, becomes diluted with laundry, preparing meals, washing dishes, exercising, and scrolling social media (God forgive me!) And other mindless, non-life value added activity and chatter. And if (when) that happens, I am inevitably saddened, sorry, and disappointed in myself. God warrants more from me. He deserves more from me. The outcomes of and for a meaningful life well-lived requires more from me!

Many years ago, also included in my last book, “Becoming The Person You Told People You Were”, I wrote a poem titled, “I Am Your Spirit.” That poem was really a letter from “me to me” a letter from my spirit to my soul in that moment. One day we will talk about that spirit and soul dimension and differences.

Nevertheless, that poem (in part) reads like this:

“I am the mediator between right and wrong in your life; I am the difference between weakness, and strength in your life. I am here when you prosper. No matter how many times you defy me, doubt me, ignore me, and starve me, I am still here with you because I am your spirit... because you have neglected me you are stuck in your wrong direction, making those wrong decisions, following the wrong advice, hurting, and crying—again. Because you have starved me you have welcomed wrong back in your life; because you have doubted me, you have become weak Instead of strong, fearful instead of courageous once again; and because you have ignored me, you are again impoverished instead of prospering as it is intended for you to do.” [partial—not complete poem].

This poem speaks to the core of why seeking God (first) early, constantly, sincerely is critically necessary. It’s literally the difference between life and death, failure and success. And I will be first to raise my had to attest how we define “death” and “success”’is all a matter of “perspective.”
