What Are You Here For—Do YOU Remember?
This morning while working with my trainer at the gym—I really became agitated-irritated by him as he sped up my routine, increased my weights, and the amount of time I was to remain in the one position. His voice-rapid and loud piercing my ears — almost felt intrusive at 7:30am on a Saturday morning when I wanted nothing more than to be in my pajamas hanging around bedside after working all week —for which I arise at 4:00am daily—to be out the door at 5:15am—daily. So, in my mind a little sleep on Saturday morning seemed a fair and reasonable thing to aspire for. But instead; here I am at the gym with a ego-bulging trainer who’s determined to prove that he’s the best—at my expense—and after one loud demand too many...I turned to him—snapping, “What is wrong with you?!” And without blinking his eyes, he snapped back, “What are you here for? When you came to me —telling me what you wanted to achieve —remember what that was —so the question is—have you forgotten what you said you wanted—what you asked for? He said, “Listen—I can look at you and see what you are capable of, but if I am wrong—just tell me that I am wrong.”
Welp—oh my! I was so convicted and surely reminded of that which has been true in my personal and spiritual life—which now is one-in-the-same—is also true for my physical aspirations.
Some of my life-themed scriptures are from Corinthians “We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair."
For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
So that which is true of our inner-man is yet true for outer endurance, resilience and well-being. Taking care yourself is not vanity nor is it to be neglected—we are an entire system reliant on our overall wellness and well-being—not just our “spiritual” selves, but our whole selves—mind, body, soul, and spirit!
